Strengthening Through Athletics

Intertwining physical development with spiritual growth through sports.

Beyond The Game

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School's athletic program is an important facet of holistic education, providing a unique environment where physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth are interwoven. Our athletic program prepares young athletes to face challenges with strength, grace, and a steadfast spirit, shaping the leaders of tomorrow rooted in faith and committed to excellence.

Our Abilities Are Blessings

Athletics is an extension of the school’s mission and a vessel for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to develop our student-athletes to be examples of our faith through fair play, sportsmanship, an intense competitive spirit, and the pursuit of excellence in all endeavors. We believe all of our abilities are blessings bestowed upon us, and we strive to use those blessings to glorify God both on and off the field.

Discipline. Teamwork. Sacrifice.

Athletics builds virtue. Personal integrity and responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and self-sacrifice are lessons that can be powerfully taught through team sports participation. Student-athletes who learn these lessons and seek to live them out on the field, in our hallways, and in our community will become men and women of strong character who will reach their greatest potential.

Relying On God's Guidance

Participation in athletics is a privilege with various responsibilities and expectations. At all times, all members of the Pope Prep Athletic community must conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School. We rely on God’s support and guidance to meet these expectations in and out of school, in and out of athletic settings.

"I hope that you, especially, dear young athletes, will practice sport with loyalty and a healthy spirit of competition. In this way it will help you to face the demanding competition of life with courage and honesty, with joy and with calm confidence in the future."

Leaders On And Off The Field

My name is David Uyl, and I would like to welcome you to JPII! Athletics at the high school and middle school level play a vital role in the formation of our young people. They create memories and teach lessons that will benefit our students for the rest of their lives.

I am humbled and honored to be leading our athletic program. My family and I love being a part of this community, and we are excited about the future. Along with our coaches and staff, it is my goal to give our student-athletes the best athletic experience possible. Go, Knights!

David Uyl holds 10 years of experience as a professional baseball umpire. His impact on our athletes and student body is significant, as he was recently voted “Most Inspirational Coach.”
