Service Learning

Love is an Action

Students grow closer to God through prayer, service, and faith development.

God is Love. We believe service to others is at the very heart of the Gospel message and our mission. Service and faith are essential for faith formation and the development of young men and women of character.

The goal of the service learning program is to provide students with the experiences and tools to become other-oriented in a world that is increasingly more self-oriented. By doing so, each student can become more like Christ, who is the ultimate model of love and self-sacrifice. High school students complete required service hours through nonprofit agencies in our local community, while middle school students complete service together during special sponsored events on campus.

Through senior theology classes, over 100 seniors serve 27 different organizations each week as part of their theology requirement. They assist in local elementary schools, food distribution centers, local parishes, senior care facilities, hospice care centers, and thrift stores. By regularly serving these organizations our students have developed relationships with the people they serve while providing a stable volunteer force throughout the year for our local community partners.

In Their Own Words

“JPII has been a great partner in furthering our mission here at Nashville Rescue Mission. We appreciate their willingness to come alongside us in the daily operations by supporting our staff as they help serve our community in tangible ways, helping us provide hope for today, tomorrow, and eternity.  They make an impact as they encourage our guests and show the love of Jesus to them. We are truly blessed by their continued commitment and dedication to serving our community.” - Nashville Rescue Mission

“Being able to form close relationships with many of the residents is something that I will forever cherish and remember for the rest of my life!” - Ryan Cambron ‘24, Clarendale Assisted Living

“My experience at St. Joseph School has made me extremely grateful for all the behind-the-scenes work that goes on in schools. It gave me a new appreciation for all the faculty and staff at my own school.” - Anna Claire Isbell ‘24, St. Joseph School

"My service experience at the hospital was enlightening: it doesn't answer the question about why bad things happen to good people, but it allows you to see God is right beside you when you thought he had forgotten about you." - Mia Markham '23, Hendersonville Hospital

“Many hands make light work, though gardening and planting is never anything short of hard labor! The JPII students have continued to arrive to Fed By Faith with incredible work ethic and uplifting spirits, no matter the season, weather, or task at hand. They are true Farm Angels, for which we are so grateful!” - Fed By Faith at By Faith Farm
