At the 9th annual Diocese of Nashville ACE dinner, Amanda Peper, the Math Department Chair at Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School, was awarded the prestigious 2024 Christ the Teacher Award. This annual accolade recognizes a diocesan employee who has designed or implemented programs that have served the school and the surrounding community, has taught in Catholic schools for more than eight years, exhibits leadership and a Christlike example, and represents the heart of Catholic education.
With over a decade of experience at JPII, where she has been a beloved faculty member since 2009, Mrs. Peper embodies the ideals of Catholic education through her unwavering dedication to her students and her community. “While Amanda is incredibly brilliant and analytical, she also has a deep faith and genuine compassion for helping others,” said Principal Jennifer Dye. “Whether she is attending morning Mass with her department, supporting students in the AP Calculus class, volunteering to teach 6th grade study skills, collaborating with teachers on innovative strategies, tutoring after school, or simply being present to help with anything needed, Amanda is a true servant leader.”
Mrs. Peper’s influence extends far beyond the classroom walls. Her commitment to accessibility in education led her to develop an after-school “math lab,” providing a dedicated space for students seeking extra help and reinforcing their understanding of complex concepts. She not only holds a strong belief that students can succeed, but she also ensures they have the support needed for success.
In a testament to her innovative spirit, Mrs. Peper has also created opportunities for peer tutoring, pairing students with similar personalities and interests. This not only enhances academic understanding but also fosters a supportive community among students at JPII. Her leadership skills shine brightly not only in her role as mathematics department chair but also as she pilots new math standards for the Diocese to ensure that every student in Catholic schools has access to high-quality math instruction.
Mrs. Peper’s dedication is also reflected in her recent efforts to redesign the school's registration process using Lean Six Sigma principles. Leading a team of faculty members, she streamlined communication between the school, counselors, students, parents, and teachers, creating a more efficient and transparent system for all involved, which fosters success for all students in the school.
Recognition as the recipient of the Christ the Teacher Award is a testament to Amanda Peper’s exemplary contributions to Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School and the broader diocesan community. As she continues to inspire students and colleagues alike, her commitment to excellence in education remains a strong example of the heart of Catholic education.
