I Blame My Brother: Katie Shea Collins's Competitive Drive

The South Carolina Gamecocks Women's Soccer freshman phenom Katie Shea Collins has a lot of accolades as a young collegiate forward. Completing a hat trick in her first collegiate game, also scoring in the first 45 seconds of the game, being called up to the U.S. Under-20 Youth National Team to prepare for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, and Gatorade Women's Soccer Tennessee Player of the Year, to just name a few.

With a competitive drive that leads to so much success, many people would say, "They are born with it," or "It just comes naturally," but for Katie Shea, technically, she was born with it as she contributes her competitive drive to her twin brother, Patrick. "He's my best friend and biggest competitor," says Collins, "When we were growing up, it didn't matter what sport he played or I played, the other person had to try to be better. I feel blessed for it because now I have the highest competitive drive, and I just want to be the best that I can be, whether it's school or sports. I'm so grateful for my brother. He's awesome."

Collins has impressed coaches at the collegiate and national levels, leading to a target for her on the field. Although this is a compliment to Collin's game, she is excited to put her team in the best position to win, whether that comes from her foot or from the foot of one of the other forwards.
