JPII Parent and Student Handbook

Parents are the primary educators of their children. Our school seeks to partner with parents to make their children's education comprehensive, effective, and inspiring. Parents are encouraged to take an active interest in their children's progress. They are encouraged to directly approach faculty and staff members or administrators by telephone, email, or appointment. If you have a concern, the first point of contact should be the teacher. If clarification is still needed parents should then contact the department chair, followed by the Dean of Faculty and Instruction and then the principal.  Teachers will have the most insight regarding concerns about the class or the student and seek to partner with parents to ensure the student feels supported and has the greatest opportunity for success. If the student has social-emotional, college  or disciplinary concerns, please contact the counselor and the Dean of Students. 

Because parents are the primary educators, a constructive working relationship between the school and a student's parent or guardian is essential to accomplishing the educational mission of Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School. The school reserves the right to terminate or not renew a student's enrollment contract if the school reasonably concludes that the actions of a parent or guardian make a positive and constructive relationship impossible or otherwise seriously interfere with the accomplishment of the educational aspirations of the school.

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School welcomes all families and students desiring a Catholic education.  As a Roman Catholic school in the Diocese of Nashville, we joyfully exercise our responsibility to teach the Catholic faith and morals in all fullness and especially as expressed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). It is possible, though, that some parents, guardians, and non-Catholic persons whose religious practices and beliefs do not coincide fully with Church teaching may experience conflict as we promote and instruct these teachings, particularly as they relate to same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria.

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School seeks to partner with parents to assist the child, especially when matters of this nature arise. We, therefore, commit to guiding the family to pastoral care and support. While sincere questions of the practices of the Catholic faith to understand them more deeply are welcome, purposeful disruption to the school community, public defiance, and challenge of Catholic truths or morality would indicate a student, parent, or guardian is no longer a partner in our evangelical mission and thus, may be denied admission or may be asked to leave the school.
